KENNA
PENNSYLVANIA AMBASSADOR

Hello, everyone! My name is Kenna DeValor (they/them/theirs), and I’m a nonbinary and queer writer from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I’m currently a senior at Bloomsburg University, about to earn my B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing, and I’ll soon be starting my MFA program in Creative Writing (Fiction/Poetry) at Wilkes University.

I joined the IGYSP because I deeply believe in the power of hope and resilience; in always finding a reason to stay, even when things feel unbearable. I’ve navigated challenges with my mental health since childhood, facing mental health crisis situations that tested my strength. But over time, through therapy, counseling, and personal growth, I discovered a mindset that has helped me move forward: when in doubt, give yourself six more months. Just six. See what happens in that time.

There’s always something ahead—a late-night laughing fit with friends, the quiet comfort of a pet choosing to snuggle in your lap, a breathtaking sunset painted in perfect pink and blue cotton candy hues, an unexpected amazing opportunity, a favorite meal of mac and cheese, a new album dropped by your favorite artist, a moment where you look at your best friend and say the same thing at the exact same time. Any of these moments, big or small, can be a reason to stay. You'll think in your mind: "I'm so glad I stuck around to see/do this."

I’ve been in my darkest places, yet time and again, I’ve found something that made me grateful I held on. Life is worth living, and no one should have to navigate these struggles alone. Everyone deserves support, healing, and a reminder that their presence in this world matters. You are not alone, and you are ALWAYS worthy of love and care. 💛
