Hudson's is donating part of their proceeds to us! Hudson’s is a neighborhood restaurant and bar on the southwest side of Iowa City. They feature many fresh and locally sourced menu items, from Burgers to “Fancy Fries” to what some say is the best Reuben in Iowa City! Their drink menu features many whiskeys, bourbons and scotches, as well as some seasonal favorites and they have over 30 beers on tap!

Parents: you won’t regret investing a couple hours to hear Emma Benoit’s story: “As I was recovering, so many people said, ‘Not Emma.’ No one expected that I would attempt to die by suicide. That’s one reason why it’s important to share my story: I want parents to recognize the warning signs in their children”. Join us on Sunday, August 20 at 2pm at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts to hear Emma speak and view her film “My Ascension”.

The City of North Liberty will host Summer Summit, a free mental health and wellness gathering for teens and a workshop and support session for parents and caregivers of teens, at the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W Cherry St., on Saturday, July 29. Summer Summit is presented in partnership with Better Way Forward, the Big O Foundation, the I’m Glad You Stayed Project, the North Liberty Youth Council and United Action for Youth. Programming for teens will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and lunch is included with registration. Students who will be in high school in fall 2023 and recent graduates are invited to explore practical strategies for cultivating mental wellness and practicing self-care with Mikala Williams-Yee, former director of youth engagement at Please Pass the Love. Learn how to develop healthy habits, manage stress, build resilience and enhance self-esteem. Teens will also complete QPR training. QPR refers to the three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide: Question, Persuade and Refer. Learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, offer hope and get help to save a life in this session led by Dottie Schley of the I’m Glad You Stayed Project. After the training, you will be emailed a QPR Gatekeeper Certificate, good for 3 years, as well as given a QPR booklet for review.

March 22 will be the film Suicide:The Ripple Effect. The film is the story of Kevin Hines, suicide survivor, and world-renowned mental health advocate, who works to bring hope and healing to those in crisis. Discussion panel and informational tables will showcase mental health resources and supports in our community and a reception with desserts from Charlotte’s. Our resource table will be set up and Dottie will be on the discussion panel.

PRESS COFFEE is sponsoring a ROCK PAINTING event for our project! Come and join us in painting inspirational art on rocks and meet some amazing people! It's time to bust out your paintbrushes and get your creative juices flowing for another rock painting session! From 5-8PM on Thursday, January 26th, we will have rocks and all the supplies set up for use. Stop by to warm up with a yummy latte or soothing tea and get painting! This month we will be joined by the #I'mGladYouStayedProject to not only provide content and ideas for your rocks, but to raise awareness for their mission. The I'm Glad You Stayed Project strives to educate the public, especially teenagers, on real-time suicide prevention actions and resources to save the lives of those struggling with mental health and suicidal ideation. Drop by anytime, but be there at 6PM to hear the story behind the non-profit. Here is a list of supplies that we try to provide. The Celebrate Community event highlights area businesses that provide health and wellness- centered products, services, and resources. This family friendly evening includes games, giveaways, and many opportunities to learn about local organizations and services.

This event is geared towards breaking down barriers that many rural community members feel they have just by being rural. Our goal is to bring as many resources together both in the community and surrounding areas to provide education and access to services that community members may not have known were available. This can be education for kids, parents, grandparents, etc. It can range from personal care, to camps, to local recreation, to farm safety, to mental health awareness, etc.
Come alone or bring a buddy on this community walk to talk about mental health! Join us anytime between 9am and 11am. The I’m Glad You Stayed Project will be there handing out resources, including pamphlets and Just Keep Swimming bracelets, as well as other mental health awareness pieces. Help us to break the stigma of mental health!
